TAMPA, FL – A vehicle collided with a road ranger on I-75 Thursday, WFLA reports.

The 38-year-old road ranger was responding to a crash involving a semi-truck hauling frozen food around 2 a.m. The truck had passed slow traffic and plowed through a barrier. The truck came to rest in the northbound lanes of I-75 and it then caught on fire.

According to Highway Patrol Troopers, A Toyota Sienna driven by a 71-year-old male struck the road ranger as he was setting up a detour using traffic cones.

Emergency crews airlifted the victim to a nearby hospital. Authorities cited the driver for careless driving.
