POLK COUNTY, FL – Authorities say a man was killed when his disabled vehicle was struck by a car in Polk County Thursday night.

The crash happened on State Road 60 near Century Boulevard, according to WTSP.

Investigators determined that 61-year-old Kenneth Nelson was driving a Hyundai Accent with two passengers when he pulled over due to a flat tire.  As Nelson and a nearby transportation worker were working on the tire, the car was struck by a Toyota Camry driven by 86-year-old Herbert Rogers.

Nelson died at the scene while the worker who helped him, 57-year-old Robert Burns, was injured.  The conditions of Nelson’s passengers were not released. Rogers and a passenger in his car were hospitalized with minor injuries.

The crash is under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
