News: 1 pedestrian dead, 1 injured after being hit by pickup in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -Police say two pedestrians were struck by a pickup truck on a road in St. Petersburg Friday night, leaving one of them dead.


According to WTSP the two, a man and a woman, were crossing in the area of Central Avenue and 21st Street when they were hit at about 8 p.m.


The man, identified as 61-year-old Robert Surprenant Jr., was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The woman, 61-year-old Darlene Surprenant, was hospitalized in critical condition.


Police said the pickup truck driver was cooperating with investigators, and added that alcohol was not believed to have been a contributing factor in the incident.


Central Avenue and 21st Street were shut down for the crash investigation.
