WINTER HAVEN, FL – Two people were killed and six others injured when their vehicles collided in Winter Haven Sunday night, reports Fox 13 News.

Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene in the area of Thornhill Road and Byni Ridge after the crash was reported sometime before 10:30 p.m. According to investigators, the driver of a Kia Optima and the driver of a Toyota Tundra pickup truck were approaching the intersection from opposite directions.

The driver of the Kia crossed over the center line in front of the Toyota, and the vehicles crashed. The Kia driver, a 29-year-old woman, was found dead at the scene. A 36-year-old Auburndale man who was her front-seat passenger was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital. Another passenger, the woman’s 4-year-old son, was listed in critical condition at a Tampa hospital.

A 51-year-old Winter Haven man driving the pickup truck and his four passengers, ages 52, 33, 28 and 14, were all taken to area hospitals. No information was released on their conditions.

The sheriff’s office said none of those involved in the accident were wearing seat belts, and said the 4-year-old was sitting in a car seat but was not buckled into the seat.

The deadly wreck remains under investigation.
