TAMPA, FL – A pickup truck slammed into a crowded Waffle House restaurant in Tampa Sunday afternoon, leaving five people injured.

According to Fox 13 News, rescue crews responded to the scene at 3009 W. Columbus Drive shortly after 2 p.m.

Officials said an elderly man who is a regular customer at the restaurant crashed the pickup into the side of the building and struck numerous tables. An adult and a child were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. Three other people who were inside the restaurant sustained minor injuries.

Police are investigating to determine the cause of the accident. WFTS reported the driver was apparently trying to park when he hit the gas instead of the brakes. There was no word yet on whether any charges will be filed.
