POLK CITY, FL – Authorities are investigating the death of a pedestrian hit by a car in Polk County Thursday morning.

According to The Ledger, the victim was identified as 70-year-old Barbara Currier, who was struck while walking on County Road 559 in unincorporated Polk City sometime before 2:15 a.m.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said it was called initially by a driver who had swerved to avoid hitting Currier and was trying to warn other drivers about her. At about the same time, Curran was hit by a Volkswagen Jetta driven by 26-year-old Ryan Guilaran of Polk City, who also called the sheriff’s office. Both drivers stopped to help, but Currier was pronounced dead at the scene. She lived at a nearby trailer park.

Investigators said neither driver was injured, and neither showed any signs of impairment.
