HERNANDO COUNTY, FL – Authorities were on the scene of a deadly crash involving a car and a pickup truck in Hernando County Saturday night.

According to the Hernando Sun , the accident happened at the intersection of Mondon Hill Road and Owls Roost Lane shortly after 11 p.m.  The Florida Highway Patrol said a 19-year-old from Tampa was driving a sedan north on Owls Roost Lane when he made a left turn into the pickup, which hit the car’s left side.

The 78-year-old pickup truck driver, a Brooksville man, was pronounced dead at an area hospital. Investigators said he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.  The driver of the sedan was seriously injured in the wreck, while a 20-year-old passenger in the car sustained minor injuries.
