ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A collision between two vehicles in St. Petersburg Sunday afternoon left an elderly woman dead, reports the Tampa Bay Times.

The crash happened on the Pinellas Bayway at the intersection with Leeland Street S at about 2:45 p.m.

Police said the driver of a Chrysler Town and Country minivan was trying to make a turn onto Leeland

Street S when the vehicle entered the path of a Toyota Tundra.

An 83-year-old woman was seriously injured in the collision and was pronounced dead after being rushed to an area hospital. Her name was not released and it was not yet clear which of the vehicles she was in. No other injuries were reported.

The eastbound lanes of the Pinellas Bayway were closed to traffic for a short time after the incident before reopening later in the afternoon.
