NEW PORT RICHEY, FL – A man is facing charges after crashing into a police car in New Port Richey Tuesday night, WTSP reports.

44-year-old Kevin Lee Buchanan was arrested on charges of DUI and driving with a suspended license. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, he was driving a Dodge Avenger in the area of Congress Street and Massachusetts Avenue when he failed to stop for traffic and struck the rear of a marked patrol car.

The officer and Buchanan sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. State troopers determined that Buchanan was impaired at the time of the accident.

Authorities said he refused to provide a breath sample after being taken to Land O’Lakes Jail. His license had been suspended for multiple prior violations, according to the FHP.
