CLEARWATER, FL – Rescue crews responded to a boat fire in Tampa Bay Sunday that caused two people to jump from the burning vessel, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Clearwater Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene after the incident was reported shortly before 5 p.m., and found that the 20-foot boat had gone up in flames. The two people who jumped were picked up and taken to land by good Samaritans, officials said.
The two, identified as 48-year-old Luis Gomez and 48-year-old Julie Gomez, were transported to an area hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The incident, which was reported to have been a possible explosion, is now under investigation by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
