News: Bicyclist dies following hit-and-run crash on Dale Mabry Highway

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – A search is underway for the driver responsible for a crash that killed a bicyclist in Hillsborough County Wednesday night.


The incident occurred on North Dale Mabry Highway near Hamilton Avenue, according to ABC Action News. A 23-year-old Tampa man was riding his bicycle on the roadway when he was struck by an SUV at about 8:15 p.m. The rider, who was not identified, died at the scene.


The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver got out of the vehicle and ran away after the crash. Investigators issued a description of the suspect as a dark-skinned man with a medium build and short hair, last seen wearing a red shirt. Anyone with information about the case was asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol or Crime Stoppers.


North Dale Mabry Highway and Hamilton Avenue were shut down for the crash investigation.
