Bicyclist injured after being struck by hit-and-run driver in Dunedin

DUNEDIN, FL – Authorities are searching for the driver who struck a bicyclist in Pinellas County Friday morning and then left the scene. The Villages News reports the accident occurred on Morse Boulevard near Bonita Boulevard at about 11:20 a.m.

60-year-old Jessica Laube of the Village of Dunedin was riding in the area when she was struck by a white Mercedes. Investigators said the female driver briefly exited the car after the accident, then got back in and drove off.

Laube, who was wearing a protective helmet at the time, sustained brain trauma and was hospitalized at Ocala Regional Medical Center.

A man who was riding with her, 68-year-old Robert Hunter, was also injured after being hit by the Mercedes.

The Florida Highway Patrol is trying to track down the vehicle, which is believed to have sustained heavy damage to the right side and front windshield.
