GULFPORT, FL – Two people were injured in a crash that knocked out power in a section of Gulfport Tuesday evening, the Gabber newspaper reports.

Police responded to the two-car crash at the intersection of 49th Street and 15th Avenue South shortly after 6 p.m. According to investigators, 21-year-old Queen Clark was driving a BMW southbound at a high rate of speed when the car struck a Hyundai Electra trying to turn onto 15th Avenue South.

Clark and a 15-year-old passenger had to be extricated from their vehicle, which had overturned, and both were taken to an area hospital. The driver of the Hyundai, 28-year-old Alex Bounds, was not injured.

The BMW also struck several utility poles in the crash, causing power outages in parts of the area. Utility crews arrived at the scene to replaced downed lines and restore power.
