HAINES CITY, FL – A woman is facing charges following a crash in Polk County Monday morning that hurt a child in her car.

According to WTSP, 34-year-old Taquire Studimire turned herself in in connection with the incident in Haines City. Police said Studimire was driving a Honda Civic in the area of North 14th Street and Stuart Avenue at about 8:30 a.m. when she struck the front of a garbage truck.

Police added that after the crash, Studimire was seen on dashcam video leaving the vehicle to confront the truck driver but did not check on the child, who had been unrestrained. The child sustained a head bruise and swollen cheek but was not seriously injured.

The driver of the garbage truck told police he had tried honking his horn at Studimire in an effort to avoid the collision. Studimire is now facing multiple charges, including child abuse, reckless driving and hit-and-run.
