SEMINOLE, FL – A driver was arrested following a crash that killed a pedestrian in Pinellas County late Saturday night, reports WTSP.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said 44-year-old Nole Karcher was walking his bicycle across Seminole Boulevard near 53rd Avenue N in Seminole at about 11:30 p.m. when he was hit by a Mitsubishi Outlander that was headed south. Karcher was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the driver of the Outlander, 46-year-old Brian Thomas of Kenneth City, showed signs of impairment and added that speed also appeared to have been a factor in the crash. Thomas was placed under arrest on a charge of DUI with death, and was taken to the Pinellas County Jail.

Karcher was not in the designated crosswalk area at the time of the accident, according to the Major Accident Investigation Team at the sheriff’s office.
