TAMPA, FL – Two people were killed by a driver who fell asleep at the wheel on I-275 north of Fowler Ave Sunday, according to WESH.

A 73-year-old man was driving an SUV with a female passenger when his front left tire blew out. The driver pulled over to the side of the road. A 30-year-old friend of the driver arrived and was assisting him in changing the tire when they were struck by a sedan driven by a driver who had fallen asleep.

First responders pronounced the 30-year-old dead at the scene. They transported the 70-year-old man to an area hospital, where he later died. The sedan driver and the female passenger of the SUV were unhurt in the collision.
