AUBURNDALE, FL – Authorities say a driver was killed in a head-on crash in Polk County Monday night, according to the Daily Ridge.

The accident happened on K-Ville Avenue near Rowell Street in unincorporated Auburndale sometime before 9:00 p.m.

Investigators with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said the driver of a Ford Explorer was headed around a curve on K-Ville Avenue when he crossed over the center line and struck a Chevrolet Malibu. The Malibu spun to the roadway’s north shoulder, while the Explorer caught fire and was sent to the south shoulder.

The Malibu driver, identified as 33-year-old Sean Rhodan of Lakeland, was pronounced dead after being rushed to a local hospital. The driver of the Explorer, 26-year-old Sergio Ramirez-Padilla of Auburndale, was able to escape from his truck and was hospitalized in stable condition.

A third vehicle, a Dodge Dart, had minor damage caused by debris from the crash, but none of its four occupants were injured.

K-Ville Avenue was shut down in both directions for about five hours between Rowell Street and Sun Acres Boulevard while the scene was being cleared.
