TAMPA, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a driver was killed last week when his pickup truck crashed on a highway in Tampa.

The Tampa Bay Times reports the accident happened in the southbound lanes of Interstate 275 near Interstate 4 early Wednesday morning at about 3:15 a.m.

According to state troopers, the 34-year-old pickup truck driver was unable to negotiate a curve on I-275, and the vehicle struck a guardrail and overturned.

The driver, a Tampa resident, was ejected and suffered fatal injuries. His passenger, a 35-year-old man from Oakland Park, was seriously injured. Both men were wearing their seat belts, the FHP said.

The southbound lanes of I-275 were closed for about four hours while the scene was being cleared and investigated.
