HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – A driver has pleaded guilty in connection with a crash that killed a jogger in Hillsborough County earlier this year.

According to WFLA , Benjamin Ehas entered the plea Tuesday to a charge of DUI manslaughter. He was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison and nearly three years on probation.

Ehas was driving a pool service truck on Bayshore Boulevard January 9 when he drove onto the sidewalk and hit 70-year-old George Gage.  The force of the crash sent Gage into Hillsborough Bay.

Prosecutors said Ehas’s blood alcohol level after the crash was nearly three times the legal limit.  He was driving 60 to 70 miles an hour in a 35 mile an hour zone, according to police. Ehas was originally charged with vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter but as part of the plea agreement, the vehicular homicide charge was dropped.
