TAMPA, FL – A driver was pulled from the waters of Tampa Bay following a multi-vehicle crash on the Howard Frankland Bridge Monday night, reports Bay News 9.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver was outside of his vehicle, a Nissan Frontier with a trailer that was parked on an inside lane of Interstate 275.  An oncoming Toyota Corolla hit the trailer, which then struck the driver of the Nissan and sent him over the wall into the water.

The Corolla was then hit by a Jeep Compass. State troopers said the Nissan driver was transported to a local hospital as a trauma alert, but no immediate details were released on his condition. No other injuries were reported.

The southbound lanes of the Howard Frankland Bridge were closed following the crash before reopening later in the evening.
