VALRICO, FL – A 21-year-old driver has been charged with driving under the influence after crashing into a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy patrol car on State Road 60 E and N Valrico Road.

According to the Tampa Bay Reporter, Cole Mason Gatlin was heading east on SR 60 in a 2018 Ford Taurus when he hit the left rear side of the patrol car, which was traveling east in the center lane of SR 60. After striking the patrol car, which was occupied by two sheriff’s deputies, the Ford Taurus also struck a 2013 Toyota Sequoia.

Gatlin admitted to the deputies that he had consumed alcohol prior to driving. He failed field sobriety tests and the breathalyzer showed his blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit.

No one was seriously injured in this accident.
