MANATEE COUNTY, FL – State troopers said two vehicles collided head-on in Manatee County Sunday afternoon, leaving two people dead.

WWSB reports the crash occurred on Moccasin Wallow Road near Carter Road at approximately 3:45 p.m. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 50-year-old woman was driving a Toyota sedan eastbound when she swerved onto a shoulder of the two-lane road to avoid hitting a Chevrolet Camaro that had tried to pass another vehicle. When the Toyota driver began to move back onto the road, investigators say she over-corrected and moved into the westbound lane, where she crashed into a Honda SUV.

The Toyota driver, a Parrish resident, and a passenger in the Honda, a 95-year-old man from Sun City Center, both died in the wreck. A 52-year-old Parrish man riding in the Toyota was seriously injured, while a 65-year-old Sun City Center woman who was driving the Honda was critically injured.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the accident.
