WESLEY CHAPEL – A head-on collision on State Road 54 killed two people and injured a third on Friday night.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that the head-on collision occurred on S.R. 54 near Ashton Oaks Boulevard at around 10:30 p.m. The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that a 25-year-old woman from Wesley Chapel and a 34-year-old woman from Zephyrhills died in the crash. A 37-year-old Zephyrhills man also suffered severe injuries in the crash.

Authorities say the Wesley Chapel woman was driving west on S.R. 54 when she lost control of her vehicle. As a result, she entered the eastbound lanes near Ashton Oaks Boulevard. She struck an SUV “nearly head-on,” according to the police report. Both women suffered fatal injuries in the collision. The driver of the SUV was severely injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.

None of the victims were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
