WINTER HAVEN, FL – Authorities said a man suspected of drunk driving caused a deadly crash in Polk County early Sunday morning, WTSP reports.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 27-year-old man was driving south on Lucerne Park Road at about 1:30 a.m. and crossed the center line, colliding nearly head-on with an SUV near Avenue Y NE.

The driver of the SUV, a 70-year-old man from Winter Haven, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 5-year-old boy in the vehicle died on the way to the hospital, while an 8-year-old passenger was critically injured.

The FHP said charges are likely against the 27-year-old, a Winter Haven resident.  Troopers believe he was impaired at the time of the accident.
