PASCO COUNTY, FL – Authorities say a suspected drunken driver was arrested following a fatal crash in Pasco County Tuesday morning.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, 32-year-old Ryan Allen of Hudson is facing a charge of DUI manslaughter in connection with the accident on U.S. 19.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Allen was speeding while behind the wheel of a GMC Sierra pickup and driving in a careless manner when he slammed into the back of a Kia Optima near Briar Oaks Drive at about 2:21 a.m. Both vehicles overturned from the impact of the crash. A 60-year-old man who was driving the Kia was pronounced dead at a local hospital. A passenger in the Kia, a 63-year-old woman, was seriously injured. Both were Brooksville residents.
The FHP said Allen failed a field sobriety test, and said that his blood-alcohol content was above the legal limit. He was being held in the Pasco County Jail.
