News: Man fatally struck by tractor-trailer on Highway 27 in Lake Wales

LAKE WALES, FL – Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a tractor-trailer in Lake Wales early Sunday morning.


According to the Daily Ridge, the crash occurred on Highway 27 south of Thompson Nursery Road shortly after 3 a.m. The victim, 34-year-old Arturo Hernandez, was hit by a 2004 Kenworth and was found dead at the scene. The truck driver, Collis Moore, told investigators he was driving north on Highway 27 when he looked down briefly to place a drink in a cup holder. When he looked back up, Moore said, Hernandez was standing in the middle of the roadway. Moore was not injured in the accident, and no charges are expected to be filed the case.


The northbound lanes of Highway 27 were shut down for several hours near the scene for the investigation.
