ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A man crossing a street in St. Petersburg on a scooter was struck and killed by a car Monday night, reports IONTB.

The Florida State Patrol said the victim was a 68-year-old St. Petersburg resident who was operating a mobility scooter in the 4300 block of Park Street. Shortly before 7 p.m., he went into the path of a Ford Mustang, according to investigators. The man was critically injured in the crash and was pronounced dead later at a local hospital.

The driver of the Mustang was a 57-year-old man from St. Petersburg. He and a passenger were apparently uninjured in the accident.

Authorities shut down the northbound lanes of Park Street following the crash, which remains under investigation by the FHP.
