TAMPA, FL – The driver charged in a fatal crash in Tampa last year has been sentenced to prison in the case, Fox 13 News reports.

31-year-old Alexander Jacobson pleaded guilty on Monday to DUI manslaughter charges in connection with the January 26, 2020 accident near Tampa International Airport.

Authorities said Jacobson was driving a Jeep the wrong way on the entrance road from Interstate 275 to the airport at about 3 a.m. when he crashed into a Ford Fusion Uber car heading in the opposite direction. The rideshare driver, Juan Santana Tortosa, and his passenger, Billy Holzapfel, were killed in the wreck.

As part of a plea agreement with the prosecution, Jacobson was sentenced by a judge to 17 years in prison. He will also serve five years of probation and his driver’s license was revoked.
