Many Clearwater residents without power following crash

CLEARWATER, FL – A reckless driver traveling at excessive speeds crashed into a utility pole at 9th Avenue and 3rd Street N at around 3 a.m. Saturday morning, knocking out power in the area.

According to local reporting , the driver was swerving, driving in the wrong lanes, and reached speeds of 150 mph prior to the crash.

The injured driver fled the scene on foot, even as he was bleeding profusely. He was apprehended shortly after the crash and transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

Many Clearwater residents were left without power for several hours because of the damage to the utility pole.
