ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Bay News 9 reports that the victim of a car accident on the Pinellas Bayway Sunday afternoon has been identified as Carol Foster, the mother of former St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster.

Carol Foster, 83, was a passenger in a westbound minivan driven by her 88-year-old husband, David Foster. According to St. Petersburg Police, David was attempting to make a turn onto Leeland Street S at about 2:43 p.m. when he entered the path of a Toyota Tundra pickup truck and the vehicles collided.

Carol was pronounced dead of her injuries several hours later at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. David was treated at the same hospital, and was released on Tuesday.

No criminal charges are expected to be filed in the case and impairment did not appear to have been a factor, investigators said.

Carol Foster was reported to have been an accomplished pipe organist who played at churches throughout St. Petersburg. Her son was the city’s mayor from 2010 to 2014.
