Pedestrian dies after being hit by minivan in Treasure Island

TAMPA, FL – The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said a pedestrian died after being hit by a minivan in Treasure Island on Sunday night, reports WFLA.

The victim, identified as 52-year-old Daniel Wells, was trying to cross the street on Gulf Boulevard at about 9:50 p.m. when he was struck by a southbound 2006 Dodge Caravan. Wells was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital.

Wells was not using a designated crosswalk at the time of the crash, investigators said. The driver of the Caravan stayed at the scene and was reported to be cooperating with the investigation.

Deputies with the sheriff’s office said speed or impairment did not appear to have been factors in the incident.
