ST. PETERSBURG BEACH, FL – Authorities are searching for the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run crash in St. Petersburg Beach.

According to ABC Action News, the accident happened Thursday night near a beach parking lot in the 4700 block of Gulf Boulevard at about 8:45 p.m. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said five family members were walking across Gulf Boulevard in the crosswalk when they were struck by a red Nissan Juke that was coming out of the parking lot. The driver took off heading north after the accident.

One of the pedestrians hit, 70-year-old Hiep Huynh, was pronounced dead at an area hospital. Two other victims were hospitalized with minor injuries, while the other two were treated at the scene.

Investigators say the vehicle they are looking for is a newer model red Nissan Juke with alloy rims. Anyone with information regarding the incident was asked to contact the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

A pedestrian accident can have catastrophic results, especially when the driver involved recklessly leaves the scene.
