PINELLAS PARK, FL – Police say a driver going at high speed was killed in a single-car crash in Pinellas Park Wednesday afternoon.

According to WTSP, the wreck occurred on Grand Avenue near Gandy Boulevard at about 3:15 p.m. Investigators said the driver of a Toyota Corolla failed to negotiate a curve while traveling on Grand Avenue and slammed into a tree. The car then ended up back in the roadway.

The victim was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital. No one else was in the car.

The northbound lanes of Grand Avenue were shut down in the area of the crash before reopening several hours later.
