SARASOTA COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a motorcycle rider died after colliding with a sport utility vehicle on U.S. 41 in Sarasota County Saturday night.
According to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, the victim was a 27-year-old man from Venice. State troopers said he was riding at high speed on U.S. 41 south at about 6 p.m. when he crashed into an SUV that was making a turn onto the highway from Jessie Harbor Drive. The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and suffered fatal injuries.
An 83-year-old man driving the SUV and his 79-year-old female passenger were not hurt. Both are Osprey residents.
U.S. 41 south was shut down for several hours while the FHP and local authorities investigated the crash.
