LAKELAND, FL – An SUV driver was arrested following a fatal collision with a motorcyclist on Friday afternoon, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The Daily Ridge reports the accident happened on U.S. Highway 98 north near the intersection with West Daughtery Road at about 1:45 p.m. Investigators determined that 33-year-old Dana Brown of Lakeland was driving a Buick Enclave north when she turned west to enter the parking lot of a Walmart and violated the right-of-way of a southbound motorcycle. The motorcycle, operated by 23-year-old Dallas Kirk of Lakeland, struck the right front of the SUV and the impact caused Kirk to be thrown from the bike. He was declared dead at the scene. Brown and her three children who were with her in the SUV were not injured.

The sheriff’s office said Brown had an active traffic-related warrant for knowingly driving while license suspended. She was arrested on that warrant and was also charged with knowingly driving with a suspended license and causing death.
