LARGO, FL – Authorities say a teenager who had been trying to get away from deputies crashed into a car in Pinellas County Thursday night, reports Fox 13 News.

The 17-year-old, who was driving a red Chevy Impala, was initially seen speeding along with another car on 119th Street near Ulmerton Road in Largo at about 8:15 p.m. It was believed the two may have been racing. Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies attempted a traffic stop, but both vehicles fled the area.

The sheriff’s office said another stop was attempted when the Impala was spotted later in the Baskin area but the driver fled again, and deputies de-activated their lights.

The 17-year-old then went through a stop sign at 16th Street SW and Ridge Road and collided with a Cadillac SUV, according to investigators. The Cadillac driver sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized. The 17-year-old, who was not injured, was arrested and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
