NORTH PORT, FL – A young man is under arrest in connection with a fatal car accident in Sarasota County in 2019.

According to WZVN , Tristan Burroughs of Venice was arrested on a vehicular manslaughter charge in the case. The incident happened at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Lazy River Road in North Port on Dec. 21, 2019.

Burroughs, who was 17 at the time, was driving south on U.S. 41 just before 2 p.m. The Florida Highway Patrol said his car crashed into a northbound vehicle that was attempting to make a turn. The other vehicle overturned and the driver, 70-year-old Thomas Roushar of Minnesota, sustained fatal injuries.

Burroughs and his passenger, who was 15 years old at the time, were hospitalized with serious injuries. The FHP said alcohol was not a factor in the wreck.
