ST. PETERSBURG, FL – The woman who allegedly drove drunk and collided with a patrol car on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge on March 6 has been found incompetent to stand trial.

Kristen Kay Watts, 52, was driving a BMW at excessive speeds on I-275 when she drove through a road closure for a 10 K race on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper intervened and used her patrol vehicle to collide head-on with Watts. First responders transported Watts and the trooper, Toni Schuck, to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities charged Watts with DUI with serious injury. She had a BAL of .271 at the time of the accident.

Two doctors recently determined that Watts needed mental help and recommended that she be admitted to a state hospital for stabilization.

The judge found Watts incompetent to stand trial. However, he said there is a good chance of her regaining competence in the future.
