SARASOTA COUNTY, FL – Police made an arrest in connection with a crash that killed an elderly man in Sarasota County Saturday morning, Fox 13 News reports.
The Florida Highway Patrol said a 38-year-old woman from Rotonda West was arrested on a charge of driving without a valid license involving death. Troopers said the woman was driving on North River Road at about 5:30 a.m. and trying to pass traffic when she struck an SUV near West Villages Parkway. The woman’s vehicle then collided with a pickup truck.
The SUV involved in the initial collision overturned and the driver, an 86-year-old man, died at the scene. An 84-year-old woman riding with him was seriously injured. A 24-year-old man who was driving the pickup was not hurt. The 38-year-old woman was seriously injured.
She was taken to the Sarasota County Jail following her arrest.
