NORTH PORT, FL – A woman was sentenced on Friday for a drunk driving crash that killed an elderly couple in North Port on March 24, 2019.

According to WTSP, Samantha King was sentenced in Sarasota County Court to 13 years in prison followed by 17 years of probation. King was driving a Kia Forte when she crashed into a Honda Civic that was stopped on U.S. 41 in front of CoolToday Park, where fans had just left a baseball game.

The occupants of the Civic, 81-year-old George Almeder and his wife 79-year-old Rose Almeder, died in the crash. They had been celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary that night.

Authorities said King, who was 19 at the time, was driving 85 miles an hour and had a blood alcohol level well above the legal limit at the time of the crash. She pleaded guilty to two charges of DUI manslaughter and four counts of DUI personal injury/property damage.
