Child Custody

How is Child Custody Determined in the state of Florida?

One of the most difficult parts of a divorce is in determining who will receive custody of the children. Divorces are painful enough without the involvement of any children from the marriage, as a mishandled divorce can have long-lasting and detrimental effects on their future. To help ease this process as much as possible, the courts have created a sort of guideline to help determine what will be the best for the children.

One of the first factors that a Florida court will look at when determining custody is the relationship between the parents and their child. The child will be more likely to go with a parent who will be able to offer them stability, from food and clothing to love and affection, as well as the parent that will be more likely to encourage frequent visits with the other parent. The records of the child, as well as the financial, mental and physical health of the parents will be taken into account.
