ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Police say a woman driving a sport utility vehicle died after she crashed into a St. Petersburg apartment building on Sunday afternoon.
The St. Petersburg Police Department issued a news release identifying the victim as 66-year-old Cynthia Rae Lauber. Investigators say she was driving a Toyota SUV north near the 8400 block of N Dr. Martin Luther King Street at about 3:40 p.m. when she lost control of the vehicle, struck an above ground water main, and crashed into the wall of the Jamestown Apartments.
Lauber, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said it was not yet known whether intoxication was a factor in the crash as their investigation continues.
