HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a pedestrian died after being hit by a truck on a highway near Tampa early Saturday morning.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the victim was walking on U.S. 41 near Palm River Road when the incident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. State troopers said the man walked into the path of a northbound semi-trailer while crossing the roadway and was struck. The pedestrian, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The FHP said the truck was driven by a 66-year-old man from Babson Park who was not injured.
