ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Police say a pedestrian was struck and killed in St. Petersburg early Friday by a driver who left the scene, according to WFTS.

A search for the vehicle is now underway following the accident in the area of Central Avenue and 34th Street at about 12:15 a.m. Investigators said a Nissan Altima traveling northbound hit a 58-year-old man who had walked into 34th Street and sat in the roadway. The pedestrian died from his injuries. His identity has not yet been released.

Police issued a description of the vehicle they are looking for: a 2010-2012 white Nissan Altima sedan with left front damage and a missing left front fog light bezel.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact St. Petersburg police.
