PINELLAS PARK, FL – A reckless driver fleeing the police caused a three car-crash near Bonnie Glynn early Monday morning.

According to a report filed by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.), the accident occurred on 66th Street North at 72nd Avenue North at around 3:51 a.m.

The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Akeem Edwards. He was reportedly driving his Ford Mustang recklessly in the area of 34th Street North and 54th Avenue North.

Police responded to the scene and Edwards sped off, at which point officers called off the pursuit due safety concerns. Edwards headed northwest and eventually rear-ended a Honda CRV and Toyota Sequoia at 66th St and 72nd Ave.

Edwards fled the crash scene by foot, but was soon apprehended by the police. He was transported to a local hospital, and charges are pending.

The driver of the CRV also suffered minor injuries.

The crash is still under investigation, but speed appears to be a factor in the crash.

All lanes of 66th Street North were blocked for about two hours after the wreck.
