ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A St. Petersburg man died after his car was involved in a crash on Interstate 275.

The accident happened Saturday as the man was driving south on I-275 near the exit for 28th Street S, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the 51-year-old driver lost control of his SUV after suffering a medical emergency.  He collided with another southbound SUV traveling in the inside lane.  The first SUV crashed into a guardrail before stopping on the shoulder of the highway.

The St. Petersburg man was pronounced dead at an area hospital. It remained unclear whether his death resulted from the crash itself or from the medical emergency.   Two people in the other SUV, the 76-year-old driver and a 63-year-old passenger, were not hurt in the accident.
