TAMPA, FL – Authorities said a teenager was rushed to the hospital Monday night after being struck by a car on Gulf Boulevard in Treasure Island.

WFLA reports the victim was a 13-year-old girl who was running across the road with a friend near the intersection with 120th Avenue when the accident occurred. According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, one driver stopped to let the girls go across but another driver did not stop in time and hit the 13-year-old at about 9:30 p.m.

The girl, who was visiting the area from Ohio, was listed in serious condition after being transported to an area hospital. Her friend was not injured. The driver stayed at the scene after the incident and was reported to be cooperating with investigators.

Investigators said speed did not appear to have been a factor in the crash, and added that the two girls were not using a crosswalk at the time.
