PINELLAS COUNTY, FL – Authorities say a woman trying to help a crash victim was struck and killed by a car in Pinellas County Friday night.

According to Fox 13 News, a man had fallen from his scooter after colliding with a boat trailer being towed by a Chevy Equinox in the area of Park Street and 62nd Avenue North in Seminole. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said 62-year-old Michelle Lessl entered the roadway at about 10 p.m. in an effort to help the scooter rider. At that point, she was hit by a southbound Buick Century that had changed lanes in an effort to try to pass the initial crash. Lessl was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man on the scooter, Joseph Mazza II, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and was transported to a hospital. No one else was hurt.

The sheriff’s office said neither speed nor alcohol were considered to have been contributing factors in the incident.
