LAKE WALES, FL – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating the death of a woman struck and killed by a car on U.S. 27 near Lake Wales last week.

The Daily Ridge reports the victim was identified as 38-year-old Mary Elizabeth Faison of Winter Haven. Investigators determined she was walking north on the west side of U.S. 27 near Longleaf Boulevard Thursday when she was hit by a southbound Kia Soul at about 1 a.m.

When police and sheriff’s deputies arrived they found Faison dead, about 30 feet from the edge of the road. The driver of the Kia, 30-year-old Edrick Williams of Sebring, was not hurt.

The sheriff’s office said Williams contacted authorities right after the accident but said he was not sure what he had struck.

It is not yet known whether any charges will be filed against Williams, authorities said.
